An exponent is a way to represent a product when the same factor is repeated a certain number of times in a multiplication.

a is called the base or root.
n is called the exponent or power.

$a^n\cdot a^p=a^{n+p}$

$a^n\cdot b^n={(a\cdot b)}^n$

$\frac{a^n}{a^p}=a^{n-p}$

$\frac{a^n}{b^n}={\left(\frac{a}{b}\right)}^n$

${\left(a^n\right)}^p=a^{n\cdot p}$

${\left(\frac{a}{b}\right)}^n=\frac{a^n}{b^n}$

$a^{-n}=\frac{1}{a^n}$
